Aslio vs SendGrid

Aslio vs SendGrid — the honest version.

SendGrid has been the default answer to "which email API" for a decade, and for a lot of teams it should stay that way. This page is about the one structural difference — and the several places where the default still wins.

In short

Aslio is a SendGrid alternative that charges only for messages sent — about $0.21 per 1,000 emails (₹0.02 each) with no monthly platform fee, no seat charge and no minimum commitment. SendGrid is a mature tiered platform with deep deliverability tooling, formal certifications and 24/7 global support. Aslio suits senders with modest or uneven volume; SendGrid suits teams at scale who need certifications and an established vendor.

Aslio's numbers are exact. We deliberately do not print SendGrid's, because their plans change and a stale price on a competitor page is a false statement with a date on it — check theirs directly.

SendGrid is a Twilio product with a decade of deliverability engineering behind it. We think the pricing model is genuinely better here; we are not going to pretend the rest of the comparison is close.

What you get

What you get either way

None of this is gated behind a higher tier on Aslio.

Idempotency that holds

Send with an Idempotency-Key and retry as often as you like. A duplicate replays the original response instead of sending twice — enforced by a unique index, not a check-then-write race.

Refunded when we fail

If a message is charged and then permanently fails, the wallet is credited back automatically and the key is released so your retry can succeed.

Suppression before billing

Hard bounces and complaints go on your do-not-mail list. Later sends to that address are rejected before you are charged, which protects your sender reputation and ours.

One-click unsubscribe

Marketing sends carry RFC 8058 headers, so Gmail and Yahoo show a native Unsubscribe button — required for bulk senders since 2024.

Delivery pushed to you

Sent, delivered, bounced and complained events arrive on your statusCallbackUrl webhook, on every account from the first message.

Your own sending domain

You verify your domain and sign with your own DKIM, so your reputation stays yours instead of being pooled with every other sender on a shared IP.

Honestly

When SendGrid is the better choice

  • Your procurement requires SOC 2 or ISO 27001. We have neither, and no price advantage survives a failed vendor review.
  • Your application can only send over SMTP. SendGrid offers an SMTP relay and Aslio does not — that is a code change, not a config change.
  • You send at very large scale and need a decade of IP-warming, dedicated-IP management and deliverability consulting behind you.
  • You need 24/7 support in your own time zone with a contractual response time.
  • You depend on the ecosystem — the integrations, the plugins, the fact that every framework already ships a SendGrid adapter.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Aslio cheaper than SendGrid?

For most senders, substantially — Aslio has no monthly platform fee at all and charges ₹0.02 an email, roughly $0.21 per 1,000. Because SendGrid prices in monthly tiers sized for your peak, the gap is widest when your volume is modest or uneven. Check SendGrid's current published pricing against your own volume.

Can Aslio replace SendGrid for transactional email?

For the core job, yes: REST API, your own verified domain with DKIM, delivery and bounce webhooks, automatic suppression and idempotent retries. It cannot replace SendGrid's SMTP relay, which Aslio does not offer, and it does not come with a SOC 2 report or 24/7 global support.

How do I migrate from SendGrid to Aslio?

Verify your sending domain, top up the wallet, then switch your API calls over. Run both in parallel on a slice of traffic first — that is what we would do. If you currently send via SMTP, point it at `aslio.asli.one:587` instead — STARTTLS, API key as the password, no code change. Write to info@asli.one and we will help with the cutover.

Does Aslio do SMS and WhatsApp like Twilio?

Both are in build, not shipping. The design intent is one API key and one prepaid wallet across email, SMS and WhatsApp — but today email is the channel that works, and you should choose on that basis.

Where does Aslio host data?

The application runs on AWS in Frankfurt, Germany (eu-central-1), inside the EU. Outbound delivery goes through AWS SES in Mumbai.

Run both in parallel. Keep the one that wins.

Top up a wallet and send. No monthly platform fee, no seat charge, no minimum commitment — a hundred test emails costs about one rupee.
